Jedd O’Keeffe has suffered another blow with the fatal injury of Tavus on the gallops.

The four-year-old, trained by Roger Charlton on the Flat, had won two out of three over hurdles — with his sole defeat coming in Grade One company.

O’Keeffe had planned to run him in next month’s Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, better known as the Fred Winter.

For Middleham-based O’Keeffe the setback is hot on the heels of the yard having to rule out his top-class novice chaser and stable star Sam Spinner for the rest of the season.

He tweeted: “Terrible news at Highbeck Stables this morning. Tavus, intended Cheltenham runner in the the Boodles (Fred Winter) sadly has had a catastrophic injury on the gallops and has passed away. Condolences to owners Quantum, and to all our staff.”
