The Denis Hogan trained and ridden Cyrus Dallin landed a gamble in the Scotch Hall Shopping Centre Claiming Race.

Previously trained in the UK, and bought for 11,000 guineas at Tattersalls in July, the son of Roderic O'Connor was well-beaten on his first two start here at Galway and Leopardstown respectively.

Available at 8/1 in early shows, the bay gelding touched 7/2 on-course before going off the 9/4 favourite in the colours of the Westerners Syndicate who are from Castlebar.

Settled behind the leader on the inner, he improved to dispute the lead from the two furlong pole, and edged to the front over a furlong from home.

He was ridden to extend his advantage inside the final furlong, keeping on well to score by a length and a half. Pulsating (9/2) was a fast-finishing second under Dougie Costello for Jamie Osborne and Melbourne 10, while Many Dreams (9/2 to 11/4) was a neck back in third.

"It was an average contest, he was travelling well amongst them but that's low grade stuff," said Hogan.

"It's great to get the boys into the winners enclosure, it's hard to get in there.

"The boys came to me in May and we bought a horse out of Ascot. He got hurt very early on and I replaced him straight away with this lad.

"Hopefully we don't lose him but at the same time you run the risk when you run in a claimer. The boys have had a good day out and had a good few quid on him so it's job done for us anyway.

"They are a great bunch of lads and I think it's their first time venturing in to one. This summer they got together, they are all from Mayo and they're well connected to some other owners we have.

"Some of them are in the pub trade so I'd say it will be busy tonight."
