Ruby Walsh will break new ground on Sunday as he teams up with Bashboy in the Australian Grand National at Ballarat racecourse.

The Ciaron Maher-trained 12-year-old has won the two-mile-six-and-a-half-furlong feature for the last two years and with regular rider Steve Pateman ruled out through suspension, Walsh will team up with the reigning champion.

Maher tweeted: "Confirmation that world class jock Ruby Walsh has been confirmed to ride Bashboy in the Grand National!"

Walsh said to Racing UK: "It's on. I'm off to Oz for 2 rides. I can't wait - Bashboy looks to have a big chance."

Walsh will be having his first rides in Australia.
