FormscanBy Michael Graham - An absolutely cracking race but not a particularly attractive betting medium. The 'big three' dominate the betting and will all have plenty of supporters. Altior is the defending champion and the highest rated on 175. His only defeat in the last five years came when stepped up in trip to an extended two miles five at Ascot in November. The 10-year-old still showed plenty of dash when scooting clear in a Grade 2 at Newbury last month. There has been an injury scare this week, though, after he was found to be lame on Sunday. He has reportedly improved considerably at the time of writing on Monday evening and is being given every chance of defending his crown. In light of that, preference is for DEFI DU SEUIL. He has had a cracking campaign with victories in the Grade 2 Shloer Chase over course and distance, the Grade 1 Tingle Creek and the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase. It could be the seven-year-old's time. Chacun Pour Soi is the Irish challenger. He won the Grade 1 Dublin Steeplechase at Leopardstown last month when jumping notably well. Willie Mullins was effusive in his praise of him afterwards, and said it showed how much he had improved from Christmas. His jumping should be a big asset in this speed test and he is given maximum respect.
