Quevega won this race a record six times in a row, and the Gigginstown-owned selection presently has the mares division at her mercy. She finished strongly up the hill 12 months ago to beat Vroum Vroum Mag and doesn’t appear to face the same caliber of rival here. She’s progressed further this season with Grade 1 wins in the Hatton’s Grace and the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown. Benie Des Dieux comes here as something of a dark horse with three impressive wins over fences for current connections. She handles testing ground well and, with a very light campaign over the past two years, has scope for further improvement. La Bague Au Roi beat Jer’s Girl and Midnight Tour at Kempton earlier in the season, and was impressive on soft ground at Ascot last time.
