FormscanBy Gary Carson - Gordon Lord Byron has established himself as a really top class performer over six and seven furlongs and although he has won over a mile it really does stretch his stamina and he always looks that bit more vulnerable against a decent level of opposition over this trip, especially carrying a penalty here. Darwin looked flattered to finish so close to a couple of top level performers in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood having set a slow pace in front. He was a touch disappointing when failing to pick up Ansgar at the Curragh previously and although obviously talented he is a bit hard to work out. MUSTAJEEB comes here a fresh horse after a little summer break and may prove the one to beat. He was a really good winner of the Jersery Stakes at Royal Ascot when beating a strong field and this better ground seems to suit him well. He had run well for a long way before the soft ground caught him out in the Irish Guineas and had been a good winner against older horses in the Amethyst Stakes here previously. This looks a nice race for him and he could enjoy a profitable autumn. Bow Creek was a good winner of the Celebration Mile at Goodwood last time but that may not have been the strongest Group Two and he may find this tougher while this looks on the short side for Parish Hall.
