FormscanBy Michael Graham - A very cagey contest over a trip that is a step into the unknown for many of these. Shield is a classy operator. He looked in trouble at Galway but got a dream run up the inner coming to the last to ultimately win a shade cosily. His speed enabled him to make the most of that good fortune. When looking through his form it is a concern that he has been beaten every time he has raced beyond two miles two. Therefore he couldn't be recommended as a value bet. Pink Hat hasn't won any race further than two miles three so perhaps CAPE GLORY will have all the answers. Gordon Elliott's charge was pitched into a Grade C hurdle at the Galway Festival but it may have been the yielding to soft ground that saw him finish down the field instead of the extended two mile five trip. He was pulled out of his most recent engagement at Ballinrobe due to yielding to soft ground. He does look an out-and-out stayer as shown by his wins over two and a half miles in Punchestown and Down Royal. Hash Brown won comfortably in Ballinrobe, but that was in maiden company. This is a step up in class.
