FormscanBy Gary Carson - Never an easy race to figure out but HASANOUR looks to have hit form at the right time and has to be a leading contender under a 5lb penalty for a cosy course and distance success last weekend. Michael Halford feels his charge is improving and that a strong pace suits so he looks an ideal sort for this type of race. Sretaw was only beaten a head by the selection in Galway and has to be given serious consideration on 8lb better terms. There is no doubt Hasanour produced an improved effort here last time but Gavin Cromwell's mare, also a previous course and distance winner, could be a big danger on these revised terms. Topaz Mile winner Vastonea ran a decent race behind the progressive Panama Hat at Dundalk last time but may just have enough weight now. Defining Year, who didn't get the best of runs behind him at Galway, could be a big contender here. A previous course winner he has also run big races in stakes company here in the past and off this mark looks capable of going close in one of these big handicaps. Burn The Boats appreciated the step up to a mile at Navan last month but that didn't look the strongest contest and with a 5lb rise in much more competitive company he looks to have a lot more on his plate. Strait Of Zanzibar has enjoyed a fine season but there may be a few better handicapped while Prime Exhibit has been knocking on the door, but in a less competitive grade.
An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards which are E.B.F. eligible and that, at entry, have run at least twice under any Rules Of Racing and are eligible for a handicap rating (105 = 9st 12lb)Weights - The top weight in the original handicap; shall not be less than 9st 12lb Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra for each race won Any horse rated above 105 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 9st 12lb. Subsequently, the excess over 105 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 105 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
