FormscanBy Eamonn Murphy - One would imagine there will be more ease in the ground, than the good going description, before this race comes about. The three that capture my attention most are Stocktons Wing, Massini's Trap and WAYDOWNSOUTH. The latter is back over hurdles after a productive spell on the level and he makes his handicap debut in this sphere now. He actually hasn't run over flights since contesting a Grade 2 at Punchestown in February of 2013 and indeed he's only twice competed over jumps after scoring at Tramore on attempt number one on New Year's Day of that year. Danny Benson's presence in the saddle, with his 7Ib claim, leaves the Chevalier gelding on a lovely racing weight of ten stone four. In common with the selection, Stocktons Wing and Massini's Trap come back to this game after running well on the flat, and they've both got good claimers up too.
An extended handicap hurdle for four yrs old and upwards (135 = 11st 10lb)Weights - Top weight in the original handicap shall; not be less than 11st 10lbPenalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each hurdle race won. Any horse rated above 135 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 135 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any four year old rated above 135 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
