FormscanBy Alan Magee - REBEL FITZ is starting to gain a fan club reminiscent of Danoli in the 90’s and his supporters had plenty to cheer about when recording career win number 17 with a stylish success on the flat at Listowel last month. Connections were holding their breath to some extent as the popular gelding was returning from injury, absent since taking the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse on Easter Sunday, and missed out on a possible tilt at the Galway Plate. The Mick Winters-trained gelding was runner-up to Captain Cee Bee in this event two years ago, and easily beat Tarla on his only hurdle outing last season in Cork. Orgilgo Bay looks sure to set a strong pace having impressed when adopting those tactics in the Lartigue Hurdle at Listowel. He seemed to have a preference for soft ground in his younger days but it’s interesting that trainer John McConnell now views such conditions as a possible negative. Darwins Fox also likes to be up with the pace and accounted for The Game Changer and False Economy at Cork last time. Galway Hurdle third The Game Changer could gain his revenge now with plenty of pace apparently guaranteed.
