The lightly-raced ten-year-old has indicated an event such as this is within his compass and, having shown promise at Listowel back in June, again ran up to his mark when only giving best on the run-in behind Carmels Boy over an extra furlong at Navan last time. He seems best on a sound surface, so an eye towards the sky is advised before investing. Stop Road Lad is also in good form but looks another for whom a sound surface is desirable, while recent Downpatrick winner Ultra Light and Fellow Indian are others near the top of the handicap to consider. Shantalla added to a couple of point-to-point wins by scoring twice within the space of three days in staying handicap chases 13 months ago. A handicap mark of 88 looks very competitive here judged on his reappearance last Sunday behind Tammys Hill at Cork, and Shane Shortall maintains the partnership. A reproduction of that form would see him go close, and perhaps the ‘bounce factor’ is the chief worry.
